The enjoyably monickered Strange Brew, on Leyton’s buzzy Francis Road, is a former immigration office turned perfect local café: laid back, a little bit cool, but not in the slightest bit intimidating.
Set up by Nicholas Georgiou to feel like an extension of his living room, the big glass frontage lets daylight stream into the setting of bare woods, black metal, stools, banquet and swanky winged arm chairs. And what self-respecting living room doesn’t have nice plants and some hand made musical instruments to help give you good vibes?
Offerings include Volcano roasted coffee (that’s a London-based, ethically-minded roaster; not beans roasted in a volcano), salads by Salad Mafia, and cakes by local baker, E17 Crumbs. There are meaty, vegan, nut-free and gluten-free options, with music of retro classics from the 60s and 70s.
