You can’t miss the Cuckfield. It’s a big old nineteenth century coaching inn right in the heart of Wanstead High Street, with a loyal following of people who love it for its blazing open fires in the winter, exposed brick, vast array of beers and gastro pub grub.
Although there are currently vegan starters, you won’t find vegan mains of deserts – yet! – but you will find roasts and brunches, indulgent deserts and a selection of alcohol and non-alcoholic drinks labeled ‘exploratory’ by the owners. In practice that translates to a lot of choice, and all the craft ales you’ve been looking for.
The large beer garden – with covered booths for a cosy feel and to keep the unpredictable British summer from dampening your nights – has regular BBQs, as well as live soul music and other events.
There’s also an email club that gets you a pint of Camden Town’s fresh Hells lager on the house when you join: easy to see why the Cuckfield is still going strong after a couple of centuries.
