One of only eight shops in the UK (everyone else has to online order), Wanstead’s Ginger Pig offers what many foodies and critics consider to be the best meat in the country, along with their famous bacon, sausage rolls and divine burgers.
It’s not the place for a bargain, but we all know now that good meat with excellent butchery and a knowledge of the health and welfare of the animals doesn’t come cheap.
The meat is hung properly; the beef aged for 28 days in-house; sausages are in natural casings; and they also do their own cold smoking. The butchers start early at 7am – just like those of old – in order to ensure the cuts are perfect and the daily roast carvery (between 12pm and 3pm) is succulent and delicious.
