The Wanstead Kitchen specialises in authentic South East Asian/British Indian food, but with a twist: they have both vegan options and use rapeseed oil (the “Nordic olive oil’) because of its low saturated fat and high levels of polyunsaturated fatty acids to maintain a healthy cholesterol level.
That’s always been a problem with Indian takeaways, so the formula has proven to be a winner with customers who highly rate the food which is inspired by real home Bangladeshi cookery – for example the Dadumoni (or Grandma)’s Shatkora Curry – which uses the shatkora, a citrus fruit native to the valleys of Bangladesh.
The Wanstead Kitchen was the first restaurant in London to use compostable packaging for deliveries, and they use ecotricity for their gas and electricity which means their utility bill goes to develop new sources of green energy. Definitely a forward-looking, sustainably-inspired takeaway.
